DESPICABLE ME 4 (2024) – A Heartfelt, Hilarious Return to Mayhem 🍌🎬
After a seven-year hiatus, Despicable Me 4 blasts back into theaters with more gadgets, giggles, and heartfelt chaos than ever before. This time, Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) isn’t just juggling villainy and family—he’s on the run, facing a new nemesis whose plan might just turn the world upside down.

🦹♂️ A Family on the Run
In this installment, Gru, Lucy (Kristen Wiig), and their three adopted daughters are forced into hiding when Maxime Le Mal, a flamboyant and dangerously clever villain (voiced hilariously by Will Ferrell), escapes from prison with a vendetta. Their journey into the “villain protection program” introduces a slew of new disguises, awkward neighbors, and of course—Minions in wigs. Lots of them.
😂 Minion Madness
The Minions shine brighter than ever here. Whether they’re bungling undercover missions, trying to cook spaghetti with flamethrowers, or accidentally launching a chicken into orbit, the slapstick energy is relentless. But Despicable Me 4 also gives them a surprising subplot involving a rogue AI named B.E.E.D.O. that thinks it’s Napoleon. It’s as absurd—and brilliant—as it sounds.
❤️ Heart with Humor
What sets this sequel apart is its emotional weight. Gru’s growing bond with his newest family member, Gru Jr., adds depth without slowing the pace. The film also explores themes of identity, redemption, and the struggle between one’s past and the person they’re trying to become—while still delivering banana-fueled chaos at every turn.
🎨 Animation & Music
The visuals are dazzling: neon-lit villain lairs, Mediterranean hideouts, and a third-act showdown inside a giant hot air balloon shaped like a llama. Heitor Pereira’s music once again brings bounce and charm, and the pop soundtrack (including a new Pharrell song) feels fresh.
💬 Final Thoughts
Despicable Me 4 isn’t just another cash-grab sequel. It’s a funny, fast-paced, surprisingly touching family adventure that reminds us why we fell in love with Gru and the Minions in the first place. It blends slapstick, spy antics, and emotional beats with skill, proving this franchise still has a lot of banana-fueled energy left.
Rating: 8.5/10 – Pure joy for kids and secretly emotional therapy for parents.
