Pokémon Detective Pikachu 2 (2025) – Official Trailer Review
The world of Ryme City lights up once more in the official trailer for Pokémon Detective Pikachu 2, and it’s a thrilling return packed with mystery, nostalgia, and more electrifying one-liners from everyone’s favorite talking Pokémon. Ryan Reynolds is back as the wisecracking voice of Pikachu — but this time, the stakes are bigger, the shadows darker, and the Pokémon wilder than ever.
Set three years after the original, Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) is now a private investigator in training, working alongside Pikachu, who’s somehow regained his unique speaking ability — though the reason why becomes the trailer’s central mystery. When a powerful new tech corporation is accused of experimenting on Legendary Pokémon, a sinister plot begins to unravel involving memory manipulation, time distortion, and a new villain hiding in plain sight.

The trailer dazzles with glimpses of returning favorites — Charizard soaring through neon skies, Snorlax napping in traffic — alongside fan-favorite newcomers like Lucario, Gardevoir, and a particularly chaotic Gengar who seems central to the mystery. Visually, it’s a treat: neon-lit streets, cyberpunk labs, and a stunning Pokémon battle arena high above the city skyline.

Reynolds once again delivers perfect comedic timing, but there’s a more emotional core this time. Pikachu and Tim’s bond is tested as secrets from the past resurface — including the fate of Tim’s mother, and a clue that hints at a deeper connection between humans and Pokémon than ever imagined.
If the trailer is any indication, Detective Pikachu 2 brings the same charm and cinematic flair that made the original a surprise hit — with sharper writing, bigger battles, and enough heart to power a Thunderbolt. This isn’t just another Pokémon movie. It’s a mystery worth solving.
