Trailer Review: Dracula (2025) – First Trailer
The first official trailer for Dracula (2025) has dropped, and it looks like Universal is finally delivering the gothic, prestige horror their classic monster deserves. Gone are the campy tones of past retellings — this version is dark, atmospheric, and dripping with menace.

The trailer opens with sweeping shots of 19th-century Transylvania: misty mountains, candlelit castles, and villagers whispering fearful legends. The mood is immediately set by an ominous score that crescendos as we first glimpse Dracula — played by Cillian Murphy — his piercing eyes glowing faintly in the shadows. Even in a few seconds of screen time, he radiates both elegance and terror.
Lily James takes on the role of Mina Harker, her performance hinted at through brief but emotional flashes, while Richard Madden appears as Jonathan Harker, trapped within the labyrinthine walls of Dracula’s castle. The supporting cast also shines in glimpses — Ralph Fiennes as Professor Van Helsing looks commanding and relentless.
Director Robert Eggers (known for The Witch and The Lighthouse) clearly brings his signature touch: haunting visuals, unsettling silence, and a slow-burn dread that erupts into shocking moments of violence. Quick flashes of bats filling the night sky, a coffin lid creaking open, and a blood-red eclipse promise a chillingly immersive experience.
The trailer wisely avoids revealing too much of the plot, focusing instead on tone, atmosphere, and raw fear. By the final shot — Dracula stepping out of the darkness as the screen cuts to black — it’s clear this adaptation is aiming to be both faithful to Bram Stoker’s novel and fresh for modern audiences.
Verdict:
The Dracula (2025) first trailer is everything fans of gothic horror could hope for: eerie, elegant, and terrifying. If the full film lives up to this teaser, it could become the definitive Dracula for a new generation.
