Movie Review: A Bug’s Life 2 (2025)
The colony is thriving. But a new adventure is about to unfold.
A Bug’s Life 2 (2025) is a charming, vibrant return to the insect world that fans have been waiting for. Directed by Andrew Stanton, this sequel brings back the lovable characters of Ant Island while introducing new faces, thrilling adventures, and deeper themes of unity, resilience, and bravery in the face of adversity.

The story picks up a few years after the events of the first film. The ants of Ant Island, led by the resourceful Flik (voiced by Dave Foley), are thriving after their victory against the grasshoppers. However, peace is disrupted when a new threat emerges — a massive, invasive species of locusts led by the cunning and ruthless Warden (voiced by Jason Momoa). With their food supply threatened, Flik, Princess Atta (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), and the gang must once again band together to protect their colony and find a way to restore balance to the ecosystem.
What makes A Bug’s Life 2 special is how it builds on the original film’s themes of teamwork, courage, and finding your place in the world. Flik’s journey continues, but now he’s faced with new challenges — not just as an inventor, but as a leader, learning how to balance innovation with tradition. His relationship with Atta grows, and their dynamic is both heartwarming and full of humor, making the film’s emotional moments hit even harder.
The animation is, of course, stunning. The world of bugs is brought to life with even more detail and creativity than before, from the sparkling dew-covered grass blades to the vast, mysterious underbrush where the ants venture into new territories. The new locust characters are designed to be both menacing and strangely sympathetic, adding layers to the film’s antagonist.
The soundtrack, composed once again by Randy Newman, is lively and full of charm, with catchy tunes and beautiful orchestral pieces that perfectly complement the film’s adventure and heart. The action sequences are thrilling — from high-speed chases through the grass to epic, bug-sized battles that feel both grand and personal.
The film’s emotional core lies in its message of community and standing up for what’s right. As Flik and his friends face larger-than-life dangers, the true power of the colony’s unity becomes their greatest weapon.
⭐ Rating: 8.5/10 — Funny, heartfelt, and visually spectacular, A Bug’s Life 2 is a worthy sequel that brings new excitement to the familiar world of Ant Island while keeping the spirit of adventure and teamwork alive.
