Movie Review: Ace Ventura 3: Lost in Time (2025)
This time, the animals are… a little more time-traveling.

Ace Ventura 3: Lost in Time (2025) brings Jim Carrey’s iconic pet detective back with all the zany antics, slapstick humor, and wild animal encounters we could ever want — but this time, the adventure involves time travel, and things get even crazier than before. Directed by David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers, The Judge), the film takes the franchise into new, absurd territories while still capturing the essence of what made Ace Ventura a comedy legend.

The plot kicks off with Ace (Carrey, of course) being recruited by a quirky government agency to investigate the mysterious disappearance of ancient artifacts tied to the world’s rarest animals. However, things quickly spiral into madness when Ace accidentally stumbles upon a time-traveling device — and finds himself bouncing through different historical periods, trying to prevent a time-altering disaster while saving animals across history.

The laughs come fast and furious as Ace travels from prehistoric times (where he’s chased by a velociraptor in a hilarious chase sequence) to ancient Egypt (where he impersonates a pharaoh to outwit a group of thieves) and even the distant future (where he befriends a robot hamster). Carrey’s physical comedy is in top form, combining over-the-top facial expressions with those signature Ace Ventura one-liners that never fail to land.

The film also introduces a new sidekick, Dr. Melissa Price (played by Zendaya), a sarcastic scientist who’s tasked with keeping Ace in check while navigating time — though, of course, she quickly learns that no one can truly control Ace Ventura. Their dynamic is surprisingly refreshing, with Zendaya providing a perfect counterbalance to Carrey’s wild antics.

While the film’s plot doesn’t have the depth of the original two movies, it doesn’t need to. Ace Ventura 3: Lost in Time is about bringing the laughs and nostalgia, and it succeeds on both fronts. The visual effects, especially in the time-travel sequences, are surprisingly slick, and the fast-paced editing ensures the comedic moments hit hard and fast.

Rating: 7.8/10Wildly entertaining, completely ridiculous, and a hilarious ride through time. Ace Ventura may have lost his mind — but he hasn’t lost his charm.
