Movie Review: Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (2025)

Just when everyone thought the Chipmunks had retired their tiny microphones, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (2025) races back onto the big screen with a surprisingly energetic revival that mixes nostalgia with modern pop culture.

This time, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore face their biggest challenge yet: adapting to a world where viral stars and AI-generated music dominate the charts. The Chipettes also return, determined to prove that their harmony still matters in an era obsessed with autotune and flashy visuals. What follows is a playful clash between old-school talent and new-school trends, complete with plenty of slapstick comedy, catchy songs, and heartfelt moments.

The animation-live action blend looks sharper than ever, with updated CGI giving the Chipmunks more expressive detail without losing their cartoony charm. The musical numbers are undeniably infectious — from a wild mashup of contemporary pop hits to an original ballad that surprisingly tugs at the heartstrings.

Narratively, the film doesn’t reinvent the wheel. The jokes are goofy, the villains cartoonish, and the story predictable. But the energy is so high and the characters so likable that it’s hard not to smile. The dynamic between Alvin’s overconfidence, Simon’s deadpan logic, and Theodore’s sweet innocence still works after all these years.

Parents may groan at some of the humor, but kids will laugh, dance, and sing along — and that’s exactly what the movie sets out to do.

Verdict:
The Squeakquel (2025) isn’t groundbreaking cinema, but it’s a squeaky-clean, fun-filled comeback that proves the Chipmunks still know how to steal the stage.
