DreamWorks Animation brings back its stylish crew of reformed (well… mostly) criminals in The Bad Guys 2 (2025), a slick, fast-paced sequel that cranks up the heists, the humor, and the heart. Directed once again by Pierre Perifel, the film keeps the Tarantino-meets-Looney-Tunes energy of the first while giving our favorite misfit crew a new, high-stakes challenge.

Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell) and the gang have been living the straight life since the events of the first movie — running a community outreach program for former villains. But when a priceless ancient artifact is stolen, and all clues point to them, the crew must go on the run to clear their names. The twist? The real thief is an elusive master criminal known only as “The Phantom Tail,” who seems to know their every move.

The animation is even sharper this time around, blending 2D comic-book flourishes with 3D depth for a look that’s vibrant, kinetic, and impossibly cool. Action sequences are pure animated spectacle — from a wild chase through a neon-lit city to a zero-gravity heist inside a luxury space casino.

The returning voice cast is on fire: Marc Maron’s Mr. Snake delivers grumpy one-liners that steal scenes, Craig Robinson’s Mr. Shark gets one of the funniest disguise gags in the franchise, and Awkwafina’s Ms. Tarantula spins her snark with perfect timing. Newcomer Stephanie Beatriz voices Detective Vega, a no-nonsense cop torn between bringing them in and believing their innocence.

Beneath the stylish chaos, The Bad Guys 2 digs deeper into the idea of reputation — how hard it is to change the way the world sees you, and how easy it is to slip back into old habits. It’s a surprisingly resonant theme wrapped in car chases, gadgets, and laugh-out-loud banter.
